Hello, thank you for visiting our website. If you’re wondering where I got the name Malakand from, it’s the Malakand Pass in Pakistan which connects the district of Peshawar to the Swat Valley and is very beautiful and very treacherous. I lived there for a long time, loved it, loved the name, and now I’m using it for our Gypsy stud.
We were about to start breeding QHs, Paints and Arabs when Gypsies suddenly swung into focus for me about two years ago. I did a lot of googling and a lot of emailing and in March 2009 our beautiful fat (pregnant) Magpie became part of our lives. In June her piebald yearling colt Hemlock and his classy skewbald filly friend Belladonna arrived also. .gif)
The more we get to know these hairy little horses the more we love them and are amazed at their intelligence and sanity. I feel for the first time that you really can have everything in one horse – beauty, brains and versatility and all that gorgeous hair, colour and feather.
Our property is in Greenhills about half an hour from York in WA. Most of the property is on a sort of plateau above a rocky breakaway. We have some QH mares, an Appy/QH mare and two Arab mares who will line up for Hemlock’s attentions next season and a palomino Haflinger/Welsh D colt who will shortly
be a gelding and a Haflinger/Welsh D/Arab gelding who we bred from a Haflinger/Welsh D mare. Our buckskin QH mare Bonnie is in foal and will drop a Gypsy X baby in January. Also part of the crew are two loopy dogs and two fat llamas. You will meet them all in the Gallery if you would like to have a look.
The stud is very much a work in progress. We moved here in November 2008 and have a business in York so fencing and building stables and yards happen in between selling quad bikes and farm implements. When we get some spare time we’ll throw saddles on a couple of horses and when that happens I’ll post some pictures for your amusement.
There is no need for me to explain the origins of the Gypsy cob. They are well documented elsewhere. If you have a real interest in meeting our Gypsies and would like to know more about the breed we would love to show you around.
